Artist Info

Lyasya Sinkovski is a Boston-based realist artist and art instructor. She is passionate about skill-based art and works as an instructor at the Academy of Realist Art, Boston, where she also has a studio. She teaches academic drawing there, while developing her body of work and giving private and small group art classes at her home. Lyasya’s work includes figure paintings and drawings, small plein air landscapes, and still life as a way of visual story-telling. Lyasya’s works have won several awards and have been exhibited at numerous venues, including Boston City Hall.

Artist Statement

A painting is not a political manifesto. One cannot expect every work of art to be reflective of current socioeconomic issues. If that were the case I would rather become a journalist, and not an artist. Some works of art are more meaningful than others, while the latter ones can merely be reminders of the beauty of everyday things, something that makes you stop, look around you, maybe smile; something fun and soothing, a reason to believe that our crazy, scary, and chaotic world is not that bad.

Fine art at its best has the power to not only to grab one’s sensibilities, but, more importantly, to connect people. I believe this connection is possible through recognition of familiar imagery. Realist art is the easiest way to connect with your viewers, but it also presents most challenges for the artist. One has to be an artisan, a craftsman as well as a creative person, brutally honest with themselves, willing to put time and effort in constantly perfecting their craftsmanship. I have a great respect for those on this difficult journey, and I am studying traditional art methods myself.
